Identity Fraud Expense Reimbursement Benefit
Provided through Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America
Classes of membership Covered – All
Each member of Professional Educators of Tennessee is covered under the policy issued to Professional Educators of Tennessee that covers expenses which members incur as the result of identity fraud perpetrated on them.
The limit of the reimbursement on each identity fraud is $10,000 for the expenses associated with clearing your name and repairing your damaged credit, such as:
Lost wages (up to $1,000 a week for a maximum of 5 weeks)
Reasonable attorney fees incurred, with Travelers prior approval
Daycare and eldercare expenses
Notary and certified mailing charges
Loan re-application fees, and
Long distance phone charges.

Term Life Benefit
provided through ReliaStar Life Insurance Company
Classes of membership covered - All
Basic Plan: Each member of Professional Educators of Tennessee under the age of seventy (70) is provided with $1,000 of term life insurance. All coverage terminates at age seventy.

Supplemental Plan: (Optional) is available at extra cost as a private contract. Member coverage is available in amounts from $10,000 to $300,000. Spouse coverage is available from $5,000 to $150,000. Dependent children coverage is available in amounts of $5,000 or $10,000. The plan features dependent survivorship benefit, accelerated death benefit, and disability waiver of premium. Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit
Provided through The Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Company
Classes of membership covered - All
Basic Plan: Each member of Professional Educators of Tennessee, under the age of seventy (70), who is a resident of the United States, and actively-at-work 20 or more hours each week is provided with Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance. Members under age 65 are provided with $10,000 of insurance and those age 65 to 70 are provided with $5,000 of insurance. All coverage terminates at age seventy.
Supplemental Plan: (Optional) is available at extra cost as a private contract. Member, Spouse and Dependent Children coverage plans are available. More information is available here.
Professional Educator Legal and Insurance Package
This benefit is included in all memberships except the Associate/Retired class there is no additional charge:
We believe that the insurance and legal protection provided to our members is the best that is available to educators and education students through any association in the state of Tennessee.
The insurance is provided through Scottsdale Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Nationwide Mutual Insurance.
Policy Highlights:
- Liability Limits - are $2,000,000 per member per occurrence and $3,000,000 per occurrence if more than one member is involved, plus 100% of defense costs.
- Civil Rights - Neither civil or constitutional rights incidents are excluded where claims for monetary damages are made.
- Coaches - are covered during coaching duties.
- Private Instruction/Tutoring Coverage - up to $1,000 is available to cover associated legal expenses.
- Criminal Acts - Up to $35,000 for reimbursement of attorney fees, if exonerated and up to $10,000 if not exonerated. This includes actions against PET members arising out of an alleged violation of the laws of the land arising from activities of the insured in his/her professional capacity as an educator.
- Employment Rights - If a professional's rights having to do with his/her job are illegally violated, the policy provides legal assistance. PET's employment rights insurance reimburses up to $10,000 in defense costs if the member is successful and up to $1,000 regardless of the outcome.
Incidents that occur or begin prior to the effective date of membership are not covered.
In addition to the insurance protection listed above, PET keeps attorneys on retainer to provide other approved consultation and assistance. The legal team is led by Larry L. Crain, J.D., one of Tennessee's best.
